Wayne Bennett

During the 2013 and 2014 Dungog JRLFC was lucky enough for the then Newcastle Knights coach Wayne Bennett, to grace our turf and the aptly named Bennett Park for two coaching clinics for our players and coaches.  They were both great experiences for everyone involved.  Wayne also was the guest speaker for our Sportsman’s Dinner in 2013 where we raised $10,000 for our club.  In February 2014 when Wayne turned up for the clinic, he bought along three of his Knight’s players in Robbie Rochow, Dane Gagai and Alex McKinnon.  All three players were fantastic with the kids and unfortunately within 6 weeks Alex McKinnon was injured against the Storm.  Our club then organised another Sportsman’s Dinner as a fundraiser for the #riseforalex Foundation and managed to raise over $22,500 in one night, through the help of the 200 people that attended, many generous sponsors and donators of raffle prizes and auction items, as well as guest speakers Danny Buderus, Owen Craigie, Ashley Gordon and our MC Keith Onslow.  Wayne Bennett has left a lasting impression on many of us in the Dungog JRLFC, as a great footy coach, but an even better man, who gave his time to our club
