Round 1, what a 1st round, against a very strong rugby league town
like Kurri Kurri. The first half saw the boys line up with just 12
players, and didn’t they hold their own. Jacob Whitbread & James
Campbell were very strong up the middle. Callum Hooke’s 1st half try
was a great reward for his effort out wide. Jayden Gooch was also strong,
showing no fear. Our halves worked well together. Jayden Cassar with a
number of line breaks, and a hat trick of tries, what a great pick up for our team,
watch out for this young man. We saw try for try in this first 20
minutes. Second half was much the same as the first. Riley Bashford’s
efforts in the kicking department were great with strong chasing from
the boys. Tom McDougall quick & calm in the dummy half role, setting
our back line up. what a great start. Jack Parish can stand tall with
excellent up the middle running & leadership as captain. Not much game
left, Ben Saunders & Archie Gallagher very strong with on the line
defence, stopping tries out wide. With only minutes to go our great
Warrior Aaron Fisher, playing his second game for the day offloading a
great ball to Liam Kennedy who as always stepped up in attack &
defence, then backing up, Jarod Hunt smashed through for the winning
try. Top game by our young men. You watch this team Dungog!

Dungog Under 11s vs Cessnock
The Dungog Warriors U11s travelled to Cessnock for their opening game of 2015. They certainly put in a great performance. In our first set of six, Angus was able to step around the opposition for a great side line try. With Casey following up two sets later stepping straight through the opposition defence. Both Georgia and Jacob played in dummy half, quick to set up their players always ready to help out. Welcome to Neil, for his first game with the Warriors, with him displaying great hard straight running and was very handy in defence. Clay and Connor as always dependable in all parts of the game. Kayden leading the way today in team work, breaking through the opposition line time and again always looking for offload opportunities. Brock and Aaron showing their best defensive game up against some much larger opposition. Aaron was able to score off an amazing run from Kayden with some help from Jacob. Andrew and Clayton made sure to keep their wings covered at all times, with the opposition only scoring after the bell from a penalty. Final Score was Dungog 32 defeated Cessnock 6.
Dungog: Tries – Angus Devon 3, Casey Clark 2, Aaron Fisher 1. Goals 1 each for Angus Devon, Kayden Atkins, Clayton McFadyen and Clay Edwards.
Cessnock: 1 try and 1 goal.
Dungog Under 9s vs Greta/Branxton Colts
Dungog under 9’s played at home this week against Greta-Branxton. Dungog started slowly but managed to score early on through some hard running by Lachlan Riley and Riley Cummings. Tommy Teleski-Williams chased well from marker and Zac Ribbons was tackling hard and low in defence. Greta-Branxton had a bigger team but that didn’t stop the little guys like Fraser Lovegrove and Henry Hancock from taking them down to the ground. Dungog played much better in the second half, spreading out in defence and attack. Luke Montford got the boys running onto the ball with some strong runs from Sam Turner and Jack Miller who had the defence bamboozled. Darcy Hill constantly had the opposition on their toes with his elusive side stepping and Jackobi Haigh showed great vision running out of dummy half. Try scorers were Jackobi Haigh 2, Zac Ribbons, Jack Miller and Lachlan Riley and we also kicked two goals. Well done boys. David Kemp
Dungog Under 9s vs Morpeth at Morpeth
The Warriors Under 9s travelled to Morpeth to take on the Bulls on Saturday. After a few weeks without playing the boys were champing at the bit for a game. With only 9 players with a couple away, the boys played some fantastic football in an excellent effort of both attack and defence.
The whole team is continuing to work well together in defence with some excellent tackling against a big and mobile Morpeth team. All of the team tackled so well with Darcy Hill, Tom Teleski Williams, Zac Ribbons, Jackobi Haigh, Jack Miller, Riley Cummings, Henry Hancock, Sam Turner and Fraser Lovegrove all contributing and scrambling well when they needed to.
In attack the boys listened to their first receiver and were nice and wide and everyone ran the ball hard and straight. Try scorers were Sam Turner, who scored his first ever try using great vision to notice a chance to dive over from dummy half. Jack Miller proved too fast and strong when he scored off a tap restart, Darcy Hill picked up a kick on his own line and outsprinted the opposition to score a length of the field try. Fraser Lovegrove scored two tries with some hard and elusive running and Henry Hancock scored three tries, proving too fast and too elusive to record a much needed hat trick of tries for the junior Warriors.
It was a gutsy effort with only 9 players and the boys are sticking together and helping each other which is very pleasing and such an important part of being a good team. Player of the week this week was Zac Ribbons who had his best game of his career, making some outstanding one on one tackles, as well as running the ball with real purpose as well as doing a great job at dummy half when required. Well done Zac and well done to everyone involved. See you at training Thursday. James Lovegrove
Dungog Warriors Under 9s vs Thornton/Bersefield
The Dungog Warriors Under 9s travelled to Somerset Park on Saturday to take on the Thornton/Beresfield Bears.
With a few new players and a few out through injury and sickness, the year boys tried hard against a much bigger opposition.
Try scorers for the day were Jack Miller, Darcy Hill and Tom Teleski-Williams all crossing the white stripe, with Jack and Tom both converting their own tries.
The entire team defended well, with a bit of work on moving up in a line and showing some urgency there won’t be many teams that get past us all season. Best in defence were Darcy Hill, Tom Teleski-Williams, Zac Ribbons, Riley Cummings and Edward Black.
In attack Sam Turner, Luke Montord, Jack Miller and Fraser Lovegrove all did well doing the difficult job of first receiver. Issac Rooke, Kai Boyton, Blade Sturgess, and Jaxon Davies all ran the ball strongly and were hard to pull down. We have some excellent attacking players and once we work out to spread out a bit more there will be plenty of opportunity for everyone.
Player of the week award this week went to Darcy Hill who stopped plenty of opposition players in their tracks with some solid copybook defence. Well done Darcy.
See you all at training Thursday 4.30. Thanks James Lovegrove Coach

Dungog Under 6s Maroon vs East Maitland
The Warriors Under 6 Maroon team travelled to Ashtonfield to play East Maitland on Saturday. After a quick warm up the boys took to the field and showed a marked improvement in their game. Tyler, Ethan, Riley and Logan were all good in attack, whilst Darcy, Dane, and Jacob got involved in all facets of the game. The standout player this week was James Ross, who showed that size doesn’t limit determination as he took on the bigger players all day, well done James. See you at training. Stephen Neilson
Under 6s Maroon vs Thornton/Beresfield Bears
The Dungog Under 6 Maroon side had their first ever game of rugby league against Thornton Beresfield on Saturday morning. The boys enjoyed the game and will be better for the experience in weeks to come. Ethan Tymwik showed good skills whilst the Stroud connection of Logan Powers and James Ross played well. Dane Chivers , Riley Neilson and Jacob Black also showed pleasing glimpses of form and will improve with confidence. Tyler Russell was the star player in the opening game for the boys as he scored three tries and tackled strongly. All in all coach Adam can be heartened by the boy’s enthusiasm and we look forward to further improvement.
