The Dungog Warriors Under 9s travelled to Somerset Park on Saturday to take on the Thornton/Beresfield Bears.
With a few new players and a few out through injury and sickness, the year boys tried hard against a much bigger opposition.
Try scorers for the day were Jack Miller, Darcy Hill and Tom Teleski-Williams all crossing the white stripe, with Jack and Tom both converting their own tries.
The entire team defended well, with a bit of work on moving up in a line and showing some urgency there won’t be many teams that get past us all season. Best in defence were Darcy Hill, Tom Teleski-Williams, Zac Ribbons, Riley Cummings and Edward Black.
In attack Sam Turner, Luke Montord, Jack Miller and Fraser Lovegrove all did well doing the difficult job of first receiver. Issac Rooke, Kai Boyton, Blade Sturgess, and Jaxon Davies all ran the ball strongly and were hard to pull down. We have some excellent attacking players and once we work out to spread out a bit more there will be plenty of opportunity for everyone.
Player of the week award this week went to Darcy Hill who stopped plenty of opposition players in their tracks with some solid copybook defence. Well done Darcy.
See you all at training Thursday 4.30. Thanks James Lovegrove Coach
